What is a Labiaplasty or Labia Rejuvenation?
A labiaplasty is a popular procedure for women who want to minimize the skin folds in the vaginal area for reasons of appearance or comfort. Plastic surgeon John Fasano can offer an aesthetic approach with contouring and fat grafting along with labiaplasty. This surgery, especially paired with other procedures, can result in an overall rejuvenation and enhancement of the vaginal area.
Women in Stuart with asymmetrical or enlarged labia minora can have labia rejuvenation done by Dr. Fasano, which includes reducing the labia minora in an aesthetic manner.
Why Might Someone Need a Labiaplasty?
Enlarged or asymmetrical labia minora can cause self-esteem issues and discomfort for women. Among the effects of this condition are inflammation, hygiene problems, sexual interference and trouble urinating.
However, some women elect to have a labiaplasty for purely aesthetic reasons. Nudity has become more mainstream over time and the size or shape of the labia minora can make someone feel abnormal, so minimizing it can boost self-esteem.
The asymmetrical or enlarged labia minora can be caused by many different factors, including genetics, constant irritation or friction of the region, hormones and excessive stretching of the vagina, as in childbirth. If you think labiaplasty is the right choice for you, contact Dr. Fasano today.
What Can I Expect From the Procedure?
During the surgery, Dr. Fasano can either use general anesthesia or local anesthesia in his Stuart office. He generally uses the wedge technique for labiaplasty, to preserve sensation and avoid scar tissue. This involves snipping out a V-shaped wedge of tissue from the area, with the remaining edges being sewn back together.
The procedure usually takes about an hour, with some women experiencing minor discomfort and swelling during the one- or two-week recovery period. Regularly taking baths or gentle showers will help the incision heal, which usually takes up to two weeks. You will need to wear panty liners after the surgery, and heavy exercise should be put on hold for three weeks following the procedure. Having vaginal intercourse should also be put on hold for six weeks after a labiaplasty.
